Innovative Cold Storage Enterprises Inc has awarded FKI Logistex a major contract to supply a hybrid very-narrow-aisle (VNA) system for the firm’s 132,000-square-foot primary refrigerated warehouse in San Diego CA. Featuring FKI Logistex Condor cranes, this is the first VNA system commissioned by the company. It is scheduled to be operational in late-summer 2008.

The new facility will meet Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Green Building Rating System specifications, the standard for design, construction, and operation of green buildings. "We are aiming for a LEED Gold certification by enacting a number of green measures, including water-saving programs and an energy-efficient refrigeration system with extensive solar arrays," said Doug Gadker, general manager, Innovative Cold Storage.

Six Condor cranes will be used for pallet storage and retrieval in a 50-foot-high racking system.
