AGRO Merchants Group plans to start construction on the initial phase of a 300,000-square-foot temperature-controlled facility at the Port of Houston (TX) Authority’s Bayport Container Terminal.

This new building will supply multi-temperature warehouse space to handle storage and import/export of chilled and frozen products including produce. The site is expected to be operating in summer 2017.

In combination with AGRO facilities near New York, Philadelphia PA, Charleston SC, Savannah GA, and Oakland CA, the Houston project expands AGRO’s position as an import and export cold chain provider.

Served by rail, the facility will be developed on 12 acres of land. It will include inspection and handling facilities for the US Department of Agriculture, 24-hour blast-freezing cells, and 85-ft-deep truck docks with doors for shipping and receiving. The facility’s rail ramp will offer intermodal access to the North American market.

Bayport is the Houston home terminal for Maersk, Mediterranean Shipping Co, and CMA CGM. These carriers provide several weekly calls covering global locations including the Central American and western coast of South America, Asia, Europe/Mediterranean, Middle East, India, and Africa.
