GCCA joins FSMA 204 collaboration to improve food traceability across the cold chain
Key takeaways
- GCCA joins FSMA 204 collaboration to enhance cold chain traceability for high-risk foods.
- Accurate tracking of temperature, handling, and timing strengthens food safety and regulatory compliance.
- GCCA and GS1 US webinar guides cold chain operators on key data elements and critical tracking events.
The Global Cold Chain Alliance (GCCA) recently joined the Food Industry FSMA 204 Collaboration, a group focused on driving awareness of the U.S. FDA’s Food Traceability Rule.
The collaboration includes 10 trade associations and industry groups working together to provide education, guidance, and resources to support FSMA Rule 204 compliance. GCCA’s participation highlights the role of the cold chain in maintaining product quality, safety, and traceability throughout the food supply chain.
GCCA and GS1 US will host a joint webinar on May 6 to support this effort. It will offer guidance on navigating FSMA Rule 204, interpreting legal requirements, addressing operational challenges, and engaging with customers to implement interoperable data standards for key tracking events. Registration is available here for GCCA members.
"The cold chain allows vertical food supply chains to function safely, efficiently, and competitively. GCCA’s members are well positioned at the intersection of food safety and traceability,” Sara Stickler, president and CEO of the Global Cold Chain Alliance, stated. “In our engagement with the Food Industry FSMA 204 Collaboration, we help ensure that the cold chain can meet regulatory requirements and elevate traceability performance.”
