Arizona groups announce winners of fleet safety, achievement awards

The Arizona Trucking Association (AzTA) and Arizona Transportation Education Foundation (ATEF) have announced winners of the industry’s fleet safety and individual achievement awards. ATA also announced the winners of the state truck driving championships held April 21.

Fleet safety awards are presented to trucking companies that have the lowest accident rates per million miles traveled within Arizona, but also demonstrate significant community involvement and make contributions to overall truck safety in the state. Individuals are nominated by their companies based on their role in improving the company’s safety record. The awards are co-sponsored by the Arizona Department of Public Safety, PrePass and Transtar Insurance Brokers Inc.

Winners of fleet safety and individual awards (based on 2011 data) are:

•1-250,000 miles—Furniture Transportation Systems, Pomona CA (Phoenix Division)

•250,001-500,000 miles—Bulk or Liquid Transport LLC, Grover Beach CA (Phoenix Division)

•500,001-1,000,000 miles—The Logistics Group, Phoenix

•1,000,001-2,000,000 miles—Groendyke Transport, Enid OK (Phoenix Division)

•2,000,001-4,000,000 miles—System Transport Inc, Spokane WA (Phoenix Region)

•4,000,001-7,000,000 miles—Con-way Freight, Ann Arbor MI (Phoenix Division) •Over 7 million annual Arizona miles— Knight Refrigerated Inc, Phoenix •Chairman’s Award–Overall Grand Champion—Knight Refrigerated

•2011 Maintenance Technician of the Year—Frank Garcia, Empire Transport, Mesa AZ

•2011 Safety Professional of the Year—Richard Ortega, United Petroleum Transports, Oklahoma City OK (Phoenix Division)

•2011 Driver of the Year—Jule Amo, Knight Refrigerated
