Mayfield Dairy Farms is voluntarily recalling 1.5-quart containers of Mayfield Homemade Vanilla Select Ice Cream.

Mayfield Dairy Farms is voluntarily recalling 1.5-quart containers of Mayfield Homemade Vanilla Select Ice Cream. The recall was initiated because the affected product may have been contaminated with ammonia, which may cause headache, nausea, vomiting, and irritation of the throat. No other code dates or Mayfield Dairy Farms products are involved in this recall.

This recall includes 14,084 units. The affected product was distributed through numerous retail outlets in Alabama, Tennessee, Mississippi, Georgia, Kentucky, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Florida. Mayfield’s route sales personnel and distributors are working with retail stores to recover the remaining product.

The recall includes only 1.5-quart containers of Mayfield Homemade Vanilla Select Ice Cream with a code date of 03/17/10 and plant code of 010176. Consumers should look for this information on the rim of the lid. The UPC number is 75243 20148 and is on the end of the package.

Mayfield has ceased distribution of the affected product. Consumers who have this product should not consume it. Those with questions can contact the company at 1-800-MAYFIELD (1-800-629-3435).

The Alabama Department of Public Health has been notified of this voluntary recall.
