SunOpta recently acquired certain assets of Mexico-based Baja California Congelados (BCC). The transaction should add $14 million in annual revenue and more than 20 million pounds of strawberries to the natural food group’s supply chain by 2008.
As part of the agreement, SunOpta bought all the physical assets of BCC's production plant in Rosarito, Baja California, Mexico. It also took on a long-term lease for the plant, which is 20 miles south of San Diego CA.
SunOpta also has reached five-year supply agreements with San Diego-based Andrew Williamson, BCC’s onetime parent company. These agreements are for supplying strawberries from the Baja California and Oxnard CA growing areas to the Rosarito plant, as well as SunOpta's California operations.
