Topps Meat Co is voluntarily recalling about 331,582 pounds of its frozen ground beef patties from stores nationwide because of possible E coli 0157:H7 contamination.

Topps Meat Co is voluntarily recalling about 331,582 pounds of its frozen ground beef patties from stores nationwide because of possible E coli 0157:H7 contamination.

According to the United States Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service, this is a Class I recall and the health risk is high. Products recalled include:

•Topps 2-lb 100% Ground Beef, UPC Code: 0 74701 00065 (Each box bears a sell-by date of "JUL 12 08")

•Topps 3-lb 100% Ground Beef, UPC Code: 0 74701 00045 (Each box bears a sell-by date of "JUN 22 08,""JUL 12 08," or "JUL 23 08")

•Topps 8-lb 100% Ground Beef, UPC Code: 0 74701 00185 (Each box bears a sell-by date of "JUN 22 08")

•Topps 5-lb 100% Ground Beef, UPC Code: 0 74701 00055 (Each box bears a sell-by date of "JUN 22 08," "JUL 12 08," or "JUL 23 08")

Customers with any of the above products should discard the product and/or return to the store where it was purchased for a full refund. For more information, phone Topps at (908) 351-0500 Monday through Friday, 9 am to 5 pm.
