Fortune Fish Company has completed the acquisition of JDY Gourmet, a Chicago IL-based specialty foods and premium meat purveyor. Under the new ownership, JDY Gourmet is officially the Gourmet Foods Division of Fortune Fish Co. Terms of the deal were not released.

This acquisition has allowed JDY Gourmet to increase efficiency by joining the infrastructure already in place at Fortune. The new Gourmet Foods Division of Fortune will be moving into a custom-designed 10,000-square-foot facility adjacent to Fortune’s current facility by the end of 2012. The space is being built with six separate temperature- and humidity-controlled coolers with the optimum environment to store beef, pork, poultry, dairy, cheese, and chocolate.

Until the move into the new space, Fortune’s Gourmet Foods Division will continue to operate in the old JDY facility, where it will take advantage of Fortune’s bar-coding inventory system. This acquisition has also increased JDY’s former distribution area with Fortune’s fleet of more than 40 refrigerated trucks with direct distribution in Illinois, Wisconsin, Iowa, Missouri, Indiana, Michigan, and nationally through the Flying Fish program.

David Yourd and Karrie Kimble, former owners of JDY Gourmet and current vice-presidents of business development for Fortune, will lead the Gourmet Foods Division with former JDY staff members. The Gourmet Foods Division will maintain JDY’s commitment of hand-selecting outstanding foods from smaller artisan farms and matching them with the Midwest’s leading chefs and retailers. Fortune will continue JDY’s past services but will be able to provide earlier deliveries, a stronger sales presence, and an increased portfolio of specialty food products.
