Tyson Foods Inc, the Springdale AR-based meat processing giant, has established another joint venture to produce fuel from animal fat and vegetable oil generated by its meatpacking plants.
This venture with Tulsa OK-based Syntroleum Corp has resulted in a new company, Dynamic Fuels LLC, and will employ Syntroleum’s “biofining” technique. The venture’s first project will be a $150 million plant that can produce 75 million gallons of synthetic fuel per year for the renewable diesel, jet, and military fuel industries. The site of the plant has yet to be determined, but construction is expected to begin in 2008, and the plant should be operating in 2010.
In April 2007, Tyson and ConocoPhillips announced a plan to jointly develop diesel fuel from about half the animal fat Tyson produces annually.
