Unilever will be expanding its plant in Covington TN during the first quarter of 2010. The consumer product company plans an investment of about $100 million that will create around 275 new jobs.
Making the announcement at the facility recently were Tennessee Gov Phil Bredesen, Economic and Community Development Commissioner Matt Kisber, and Covington and Tipton County mayors.
The Covington plant, which now produces Slim-Fast, will add the production of ice cream and frozen novelties to its line. Unilever frozen dessert brands include Breyers, Klondike, Good Humor, and Popsicle. This expansion will include the addition of 32,000 square feet of freezer space.
“This is great news for Unilever and the state of Tennessee,” said Bredesen. “These new jobs are the result of a strong partnership between the state and the local community. I’m pleased Unilever has chosen to further solidify its presence in Tennessee, and we look forward to working with them on this ambitious expansion project.”
Unilever’s other brands include Axe, Ben & Jerry’s, Bertolli, Caress, Country Crock, Degree, Dove, Hellmann’s, Knorr, Lipton, Promise, Skippy, Suave, Sunsilk, and Vaseline.
