Product expansion
Along with recently introducing an all-electric refrigeration solution for stationary and storage trailers, the New World Group of Companies has expanded offerings from a full line of Zanotti Transport Refrigeration products to include Kohler Power Systems' line of auxiliary power units (APU).
New World is the North American operating arm of Zanotti, a manufacturer of a wide variety of transportation refrigeration equipment. These include battery drive-split units, direct-drive split units, direct-drive one-piece units, undermount diesel units, diesel self-contained units, diesel trailer units, and all-electric storage trailer units.
Through a partnership with Kohler, New World Zanotti's extensive dealer network throughout the US and Canada will both sell and service Kohler APUs.
3APU
Kohler offers two APU products — the 3APU and 7APU. The 3APU is a stand-alone system that doesn't intrude into a truck's coolant or critical systems.
The power unit and condenser are mounted outside of the cabin, and the evaporator is mounted under the bunk or on the wall inside the cab. Installation is quick and simple.
The frame-rail mounted 3APU is extremely compact, measuring 11 inches wide, 22 inches high, and 28 inches deep, and lightweight, weighing less than 240 pounds. It is encased in a custom sound-attenuated enclosure for a particularly quiet operation.
An air-cooled, 350 cc (cubic centimeters) single-cylinder engine powers the unit. With less moving parts, it requires less maintenance.
The 3APU provides air-conditioning at a capacity of 12,000 BTU/hour, using R134A refrigerant, and 10,000 BTU/hour of heating. This is done independently of the truck's climate control system. The unit operates using approximately 0.15 gallons of fuel per hour.
Equipped with a 55-amp alternator, the 3APU is able to charge the truck's battery. A monitoring device recognizes low battery voltage and starts the APU to keep the truck's battery at full charge, providing starting security and reducing maintenance costs.
7APU
One of the highest powered APUs on the market today, the Kohler 7APU is a complete generator system, with a fully integrated HVAC system. It produces nearly 7 kilowatts of peak 120-volt power. Similar to the 3APU, it is completely independent of a truck's cooling system.
The 7APU uses a two-cylinder, liquid-cooled engine with a multi-grooved belt to turn the generator. This combination creates more than enough capacity to power the HVAC system and a variety of electrical equipment, such as TVs and microwaves. It also handles the truck's block heater and battery charging requirements
The under-the-bunk HVAC system provides 14,000 BTU/hour of cooling and 2.5 kilowatts of electric heating capacity. As an option, the unit can provide 4 kilowatts of electrical heating.
Kohler APUs feature an oil service interval of 500 hours to reduce standard maintenance costs, and they come with a two-year warranty.
Trailer units
New World has engineered its new all-electric BAS340 Zanotti refrigeration units specifically for stationary and storage trailers. Designed for efficiency and performance, the units incorporate commercial refrigeration technology, using a fully Hermetic Scroll compressor, high voltage electric fans, and a remote control system that can be conveniently installed in the warehouse or at the back of the trailer.
The long-life units, which handle both heating and cooling, are light in weight, weighing 670 pounds. They are powerful, providing up to 68,500 BTU at 32°F, with a “commanding” airflow of 4,500 CFM (cubic feet per minute).
All-electric BAS340 units are very easy to install and are virtually maintenance free.
