Sysco Corporation has finished installation of Orion Energy System's Compact Modular lighting platform at its Riviera Beach FL facility. This energy-saving project is the 59th Sysco facility to use Orion's lighting technology.
The foodservice company is now projected to save up to 34 million kilowatt-hours (kWh) of electricity annually.
This power reduction is expected to shrink Sysco's corporate carbon footprint by more than 33,000 tons a year, sulfur dioxide emissions by about 146 tons per year, and nitrogen oxide emissions up to 70 tons per year.
At the Riviera Beach facility, the Orion platform will cut the amount of electric power the refrigerated distribution center uses for lighting by around 71%, and will also provide significant reductions in cooling costs as the high-intensity fluorescent lighting used in the platform operates 1,000°F cooler than the high-intensity discharge lighting being replaced, even though some 55,000 square feet of refrigerated space was added in the past year.
