The American Transportation Research Institute (ATRI) has posted on its website the results of its research into ultra-low-sulfur diesel (ULSD) and snow and ice accumulation on vehicles.

The Energy and Other Fuel Property Changes with On-Road Ultra-Low Sulfur Diesel Fuel study analyzed energy and fuel property changes associated with the move to on-road ULSD as mandated by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). It found that contrary to EPA's anticipated energy loss, the mean energy content of ULSD was slightly higher.

ATRI's Snow and Ice Accumulation on Vehicles study examined the effects of the buildup of snow and ice and the potential for ice dislodging during transit. The research identified short-, mid-, and long-term stakeholder action plans for better educating all drivers on the issue, explored options for fixed-location solutions, and identified vehicle-based solutions.

The studies can be accessed at www.atri-online.org.
