E. coli outbreak triggers frozen beef recall

Azusa CA-based S&S Foods is recalling 153,630 pounds of frozen ground beef after an E. coli outbreak shut down the Goshen Scout Reservation, a Boy Scout camp in Virginia. At least 22 people have been confirmed as ill.

According to the United States Department of Agriculture, the beef had been shipped to distribution centers in Milwaukee WI and Allentown PA. An investigation by the USDA's Food Safety and Inspection Service and the Virginia Department of Health discovered the E. coli connection.

The recall involves one-pound bricks of beef packed in 30-pound boxes labeled with EST. 20375 inside the USDA mark of inspection. Each box's side has a printed case code beginning with 06238.

CTI Foods, the Idaho-based parent of S&S Foods, has supplied food to restaurant chains such as Taco Bell and Quizno's.
