McLane Company Inc, a subsidiary of Berkshire Hathaway, has entered into an agreement to acquire Meadowbrook Meat Company Inc (MBM).

McLane Company Inc, a subsidiary of Berkshire Hathaway, has entered into an agreement to acquire Meadowbrook Meat Company Inc (MBM). Rocky Mount NC-based MBM is one of the nation’s largest customized foodservice distributors for national restaurant chains. The acquisition is subject to customary closing conditions, including termination of the applicable waiting period under the Hart-Scott-Rodino Act.

MBM will continue to be run as it has been for the past 65 years, led by the current executive management team and operating out of its existing facilities in the same markets. The only change to its business will be new access to enhanced resources, operational best practices, and intellectual capital that will provide opportunity for increased levels of success for MBM, McLane, and the clients both companies serve.

Grady Rosier, chief executive officer of McLane, said this acquisition is based on McLane’s strategy of expanding its portfolio of companies in the food and beverage industries.

“The Wordsworth family has built one of the finest and most highly respected companies in our industry, and we look forward to providing Jerry Wordsworth and his team our full support to continue MBM’s leadership in the market, while positioning ourselves for further growth,” said Rosier.

“We are excited to become part of the McLane and Berkshire Hathaway family, which provides an extraordinary base to continue to serve our wonderful customers and expand our business,” said Jerry Wordsworth, CEO of MBM.

McLane provides grocery and foodservice supply chain systems for convenience stores, mass merchants, drug stores, and chain restaurants throughout the United States. With 40 modern distribution centers and one of the nation’s largest private fleets, the company optimizes the purchase, flow, and sale of products from thousands of suppliers to more than 65,000 locations. The company employs 15,000 people globally. For more information, visit www.mclaneco.com.

Founded by J R Wordsworth in 1947 as a pork processor catering to the Rocky Mount local market, MBM has grown to become a leading foodservice distributor. The company operates from 35 distribution facilities and has more than 3,300 employees nationwide.
