Family-owned Testa Produce is embracing green technology in its new 91,000-square-foot facility.
The new plant is equipped with 180 photovoltaic solar panels (for electricity) and the first 238-ft free-standing wind turbine in Chicago. It doesn’t stop there—the entire plant, including refrigerated and frozen areas, has energy-efficient LED lighting. These and many more sustainable building features has earned Testa the first LEED Platinum refrigerated foodservice facility in the nation, the highest certification available from the US Green Building Council. Testa’s vision of reducing its carbon footprint extends well beyond the distribution facility.  Its delivery fleet includes two trucks that operate solely on electricity and 10 trucks that run on compressed natural gas, an alternative fuel that’s safer and more eco-friendly than traditional fossil fuels. Randall Access supplies Testa with its Randall Ramps and Lift Assists. Ensuring that its drivers have the safest, strongest support underfoot is also a priority at Testa. Randall Ramps and Lift Assists deliver performance, control, and safety in the toughest (and coldest) of conditions.
