DHL Global Forwarding, the air and ocean freight specialist unit of Deutsche Post DHL, has enhanced its tracking capabilities by launching a new global ocean freight service called Ocean Secure.
The service is designed for customers shipping sensitive or high-value cargo, including from the life sciences and healthcare industries. By means of Ocean Secure, DHL and customers can access real-time tracking and temperature data at any given point and take remedial action if necessary.
“Ocean Secure is a significant leap forward regarding transparency along the supply chain and a further development of the ocean freight business itself,” said Andreas Boedeker, global head of ocean freight, DHL Global Forwarding. “Knowing the exact whereabouts and condition of their goods will give our customers more planning flexibility.”
An integral part of the DHL Ocean Secure services are in-transit visibility and in-transit control. Customers have access to real-time information on the location and condition of their shipment at any given time via an online platform. In case of irregularities, a DHL team will intervene. Intervention points are all over the world, ensuring customers that their goods are taken care of quickly.
“Ocean Secure is part of our state-of-the-art cargo monitoring host-of-solutions. It is our response to the ever-increasing shipment event/data transparency demands and security requirements in the logistics industry,” said Andreas Krueger, senior vice-president of ocean freight for DHL Global Forwarding. “DHL Global Forwarding’s customers will have transparency along the end-to-end transport for precious cargo of any kind, which is critical to their business.”
The service is globally available and can be customized depending on user needs. Customers can choose container tracking along key milestones, monitoring of any opening of the container, or of temperature and humidity in the container leveraging the DHL SmartSensor GSM technology; as well as real-time and in-transit information for all container parameters from remote areas and at sea through satellite transmission.
