Navman Wireless’s guide to effective temperature control in refrigerated transport examines opportunities for fleets to become more efficient and more profitable.
Transport companies operating refrigerated tractors and trailers can lower operating costs by making simple operational changes, according to a new industry guide released by telematics, vehicle tracking, and temperature monitoring specialist Navman Wireless.
The guide outlines the general concepts of transport refrigeration systems plus legislation and regulations, refrigerated vehicle construction and ATP requirements, what should be monitored and why, and examples of temperature data. It also explores ways in which temperature monitoring systems can be used in practice to help improve temperature control and simultaneously drive down operating costs.
Key conclusions and recommendations in the 40-page guide include:
•Ensure that vehicle and refrigeration systems are
properly specified
•Operate the vehicle in the best possible way
    •Monitor temperature and events
•Check equipment function on a regular basis
•Maintain records and use the data to drive improvements
The guide also covers in detail types of refrigeration systems available, areas of importance with respect to the environmental impact of transport refrigeration systems, and specifying refrigerated vehicles.
