Transportation and logistics provider Werner Enterprises (NASDAQ:WERN) has announced the 35,000th enrollee in its Professional Truck Driver Apprenticeship Program.

Penny Vigil from Lancaster CA is the 35,000th participant to enroll in Werner’s apprenticeship program. Currently, she hauls freight from Los Angeles CA to Phoenix AZ and back. Vigil graduated from Roadmaster Drivers School in Fontana CA before joining Werner.

“Werner Enterprises was an easy choice because they were among the top companies that offered full-time employment with benefits and a pet-friendly policy,” said Vigil. “I enrolled in the Department of Labor’s Apprenticeship program because it sounded like an interesting opportunity.”

In 2006, Werner partnered with the US Department of Labor and the Department of Veterans Affairs to start the industry’s first Professional Truck Driver Apprenticeship Program.

Founded in 1956, Werner maintains headquarters in Omaha NE and has offices in the United States, Canada, Mexico, China and Australia. Werner is among the five largest truckload carriers in the United States, with services that include dedicated van, temperature-controlled and flatbed; medium-to-long-haul, regional and local van; and expedited services. The Werner Logistics portfolio includes freight management, truck brokerage, intermodal and international services. International services are provided through domestic and global subsidiary companies and include ocean, air and ground transportation; freight forwarding; and customs brokerage.
