Werner Enterprises (NASDAQ:WERN), a Omaha NE-based transportation and logistics company, is the only carrier named to the Military Times Best for VETS Index for the company’s support of military veterans, service members and their families.

“We take great pride in our military veteran and veteran spouse professional drivers and associates,” said Jim Morbach, associate vice-president of student and government recruiting. “We appreciate the opportunity to support those who have sacrificed their lives to serve our nation, and we will continue to invest in their success at Werner.”

The Military Times Best for VETS Index measures the performance of publicly traded companies selected from the Military Times Best for Vets Employers annual rankings survey. This survey is based on selection criteria, such as company cultures, policies and reservist accommodations. Companies that score highest on the survey, carry a market capitalization of $200 million or more, and have been included in the annual list for at least three consecutive years qualify for the Best for VETS Index.

“Our core belief is that companies that attribute value to the mission-critical mindset, the unique skill sets and the specialized training of US military veterans are differentiating factors in an enterprise’s overall performance,” said Andre Corpuz, VETS Indexes managing director. “The Military Times Best for Vets Employers annual rankings survey was filled out by 2,500 companies, which was then filtered, and Werner was chosen among the 37 selected.”

As a military-friendly employer, Werner has pledged to hire 2,000 veterans and 250 veteran spouses in 2018. Military veterans and veteran spouses comprise approximately 20% of Werner’s workforce. The complete list of the awardees can be found on the VETS Indexes website.
