Swift chooses SmartDrive program

Knight-Swift VP says system delivering ‘meaningful reductions in collision rates’ for Knight, prompting expanded partnership

Swift Transportation, a full truckload carrier, recently chose to install the SmartDrive video-based safety program across its fleet of vehicles in the United States and Mexico.

Swift now joins Knight Transportation, and many other leading fleets who’ve benefited from the program, SmartDrive said. Knight and Swift merged in 2017, forming Knight-Swift Transportation, the industry’s largest full truckload company, with an extensive fleet of roughly 19,300 tractors and 68,000 trailers/containers.

Knight-Swift is headquartered in Phoenix AZ.

“SmartDrive allows our drivers and fleets to clearly see and measure safety performance, which allows the company to foster meaningful ownership of safety performance,” said Dave Jackson, CEO of Knight-Swift, adding that Swift’s decision to install the SmartDrive system supports its commitment to safety.  “SmartDrive excels in aligning drivers, operations and management around insightful and actionable metrics, allowing us to reinforce our safety culture of accountability throughout our entire organization.”

Brett Sant, senior VP of safety and risk management at Knight-Swift, said Knight Transportation experienced “meaningful reductions in collision rates” after installing SmartDrive in its fleet, leading to the decision to add the system to Swift’s vehicles.

“That experience was instructive in the decision, ultimately, to roll out the SmartDrive program within our Swift fleets,” Sant said. “We are grateful for the work SmartDrive has done and the positive impact the SmartDrive team has had on our fleet’s safety.”
