SafeTScribe Technologies Inc’s smart ink technology will improve the quality and safety of perishables, pharmaceuticals, and healthcare products by providing an active packaging and labeling system. This system creates accountability throughout the food and drug supply chain from processing and production to distribution, retail, and consumption.

The company’s technology platforms, consisting of time- and temperature-sensing ink, are designed as flexible, low-cost systems that can be seamlessly integrated into current packaging and automated labeling systems, as well as customized to product specifications and graphics requirements.

Unlike RFID technology, SafeTScribe’s time-sensing ink is designed as a visual tool to accurately manage freshness of products on retail shelves to not only ensure inventory rotation but also provide consumers with a freshness indicator. The time-sensing ink is a platform for limited-time promotions, self-discounting coupons, and value-adds for any product with an expiration date.

SafeTScribe’s dual-sensitized ink can communicate product status and history, simplify sorting of aging products, and reduce product shrink by enabling timely removal of damaged or expired goods from the supply chain.

These smart ink systems can be readily integrated into existing business processes, such as scanning and labeling systems, to enhance product monitoring without replacing existing hardware or software or investing in new infrastructure. In addition, SafeTScribe’s ink technology fulfills compliance requirements for food handling with HACCP (Hazard Analysis Critical Control Points) principles and drives differentiation at multiple levels of the supply chain.

SafeTScribe’s smart ink systems will be available in third quarter 2009. For more details, visit www.safetscribe.com.
