Solar Cool Thermal Coating available
Solar Cool Thermal Coating is now available to owners and operators of refrigerated trailers.
Easy to apply, this coating gives reefer operators a new and very affordable weapon in their arsenal for fighting summertime heat and high fuel prices. When applied to the roof of a refrigerated trailer, the coating lowers compressor run time, reducing fuel usage and greenhouse gas emissions.
Far from rocket science, the coating’s design is based on common sense. On a hot summer day, people wear lighter-colored clothes to stay cool. The Environmental Protection Agency, through its Energy Star Program, promotes white roof surfaces so buildings use less electricity for cooling. Many school bus roofs also are white because this lowers the passenger compartment temperature by about 10 degrees.
A coated roof on a refrigerated trailer does the same thing. By eliminating the roof as a heat source, the trailer’s internal temperature is dropped, allowing the compressor to run less.
Solar Cool Coatings has been helping refrigerated transportation companies do that for the past five years. Not only does this high-flex elastomeric coating have superior adhesion and weather ability, but it also has both a high solar reflective rating and, more importantly, a high thermal emittance rating. The coating takes less than three hours to apply, is ecologically friendly, and has been tested in several warm locations including Las Vegas NV, Dallas TX, Orlando FL, and Phoenix AZ.
