Klinge Corporation has unveiled its new redundant container refrigeration unit, Model PFR-582Ex, which provides complete protection for hazardous materials yet, with its compact design, offers a large cargo area within a 20-foot insulated container. The refrigeration system is just 365 mm deep, making a maximum of space available for cargo.
Chemicals producers and distributors can now use specialized container refrigeration systems made by Klinge to safely store and transport dangerous goods—including organic peroxides—globally.
The PFR-582Ex keeps cargo at a steady temperature while unit motors and components in contact with the cargo area are of explosionproof and anti-spark design.
To comply with US Department of Transportation regulations and international rules like the UN Recommendations on the Transport of Dangerous Goods-Model Regulations, temperature controls must be in place for any organic peroxides with a Self-Accelerating Decomposition Temperature (SADT) of less than 50° C.
Even for peroxides that do have an SADT above 50° C degrees, it is recommended they be kept at temperatures below 30° C (86° F) to maintain product quality, with full access to backup refrigeration systems as a safeguard.
Klinge’s PFR-582 system comes with two independent and redundant refrigeration systems. A secondary system provides full back-up in case of any technical difficulties in the primary system, maintaining the pre-set temperature.
Fast-acting microprocessor technology maintains a constant temperature for safe, long-term transportation, with cooling systems that exceed International Maritime Dangerous Goods requirements.
The PFR-582Ex comes with permanent temperature monitoring, linked in to an independently powered audible and visual alarm system that will sound should failure occur.
Control systems are simple to operate and can link in with satellite communication and GPS locator systems, while temperatures are logged electronically with a built-in printer and alarm system and backup. This independent temperature logging system acts as a “black box” that log two cargo temperatures but can handle another four temperature and two digital inputs.
