Klinge to deliver reefer containers to Swedish military
Transport refrigeration, freezing, and power generation specialist Klinge Corporation has won a firm and fixed-price contract with the Swedish Defense Materiel Administration (Försvarets materielverk) to deliver refrigerated ISO container systems.
The refrigerated containers will be used by the Swedish Armed Forces to safely store and transport food during military operations.
With potential value to Klinge Corp of more than $13 million, the multi-year contract calls for delivery of refrigerated containers based on a standard 20-foot ISO container with a hook frame for Heavy Expanded Mobility Tactical Trucks (HEMTTs) or PLS lift trucks.
This container system will be equipped with integrated hydraulic rollers allowing easy loading/unloading and a manually operated hydraulic pump. The pump will enable the rollers to be lowered when loading or unloading and raised when the container is stationary.
The refrigerated containers will function as a freezer or refrigerator and will maintain cargo between –20º C (–4º F) to +20º C (+68º F). They will contain a self-powered generator set to ensure complete and independent protection of the cargo.
As required under the contract, the containers will be designed to comply with US military and European standards on strict climatic environment and transportation requirements.
Henrik Klinge, president of Klinge Corp, said, “This award to deliver the next generation of refrigerated containers to the Swedish Defense Force is a testament to the longstanding tradition of quality engineering and research that has made us a global leader in the design and manufacture of specialized transport refrigeration equipment.”
Founded in 1984 as a spin-off of the Transport Refrigeration Equipment department of York International, Klinge Corp has been producing refrigeration equipment at its manufacturing facilities and headquarters in York PA for 28 years.
The company’s customized designs offer commercial and military customers alternatives to standard, mass-produced refrigerated containers that often cannot meet requirements of harsh environments or stringent testing.
