Western Star presents Limited Edition '67, new engine

Western Star introduced the Limited Edition ‘67 model, designed to commemorate the year the company began engineering and operations at the company headquarters in Cleveland, Ohio, and production in Canada, and the availability of a new engine.

The Limited Edition ‘67 is a 4900 Series model truck equipped with a special Detroit Diesel DD15 engine, customized leather seats embroidered with the limited-edition logo, special badging, commemorative trim, and personalized owner's kit.

The customized DD15 engine features 560 horsepower and 1,967 lb-ft of torque, and provides best-in-class fuel economy. Built solely for the Limited Edition '67, the engine delivers 90% peak torque in 1.5 seconds, allowing the driver to get off the line fast and to stay in gear longer, pulling strong to 1000 rpm.

Western Star will manufacture just 100 of these trucks.

New engine

The new DD16 engine — the latest in Detroit Diesel's series of all-new heavy-duty engines — will be in production for the Western Star 4900 series trucks in March 2010, and the 6900 models in July 2010.

The most powerful engine offered by Detroit Diesel, the 15.6-liter DD16 will come in a large variety of output and multi-torque power ratings, from 1750 to 2050 lb-ft torque, and 475 to 600 horsepower. It will be equipped with BlueTec emissions technology that includes selective catalytic reduction.
