Navistar International unveiled a distinctive International LoneStar tractor that it designed with legendary motorcycle manufacturer Harley-Davidson, and announced it is adding a 15-liter model to its MaxxForce diesel engine line sometime next year.

The International LoneStar Harley-Davidson Special Edition features Harley-Davidson paint schemes and logos, headlights that are actual authentic headlamps from Harley-Davidson motorcycles, extensive use of chrome, a highly customized interior with rosewood cabinetry, and a special instrument cluster.

    Exterior features include:

    • Unique metallic black paint with contrasting silver/orange striping in classic Harley-Davidson style.

    • Seven-inch chrome stacks with “aggressive bologna cut tips” for a custom look.

    • Set-back fuel tanks for a sleeker, West Coast appearance.

    • Custom 24.5-inch aluminum wheels with unique lug-nut covers and Harley-Davidson Bar and Shield center caps.

    • One-of-a-kind formed super-deep custom sunshade and an aluminum battery box sporting Harley-Davidson Bar and Shield logos.

The interior also offers the Harley-Davidson look and feel. It features rich leather upholstery, turned aluminum gauge faces, dark rosewood cabinets, a dark walnut floor, and a limited production number plate on the shifter.

Only 250 units of the International Special Edition, available in a sleeper configuration only, will be produced this year.

The new MaxxForce 15-liter diesel, in horsepower ratings from 435 to 550, combines the basic block and architecture of Caterpillar's current C15 engine with Navistar's fuel and emissions systems.

Like other MaxxForce engines, the 15-liter power plant will use exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) to meet emission requirements.

The engine will be available sometime after January 2010.

Navistar and Caterpillar announced in late 2008 that they had agreed to jointly develop various products. The MaxxForce 15 is the first joint product to be announced.
