Aura electric system designed for large refrigerated trailers

April 12, 2012
Aura Systems Inc has introduced an electric system for large refrigerated trailers.

Aura Systems Inc (OTCBB: AUSI) has introduced an electric system for large refrigerated trailers. The system can be retrofitted on any existing refrigerated trailer with shorepower standby capability. The AuraGen generator is mounted on a tractor, and an interface box is integrated on the trailer.

The AuraGen system will provides up to 20 kilowatts of electric power in either 240 volt AC three-phase or 480 volt AC three-phase configurations. This system consists of the AuraGen generator integrated into a tractor, a quick connect/disconnect cable, and a small interface box mounted on the refrigerated trailer. When in transit, the AuraGen will power the refrigeration system as if it was plugged in to shorepower; when the trailer is disconnected from the tractor or during rest periods, the existing system will operate as is. This will reduce diesel emissions and fuel usage.

For large cross-country hauls, the industry estimates roughly 3,600 annual working hours, half of which are used during transit and half for rest. Furthermore, it is estimated that while in transit existing diesel-based refrigeration systems use about one gallon per hour. The AuraGen system will reduce fuel consumption during transit from one gallon per hour to 0.2 gallons per hour, a saving of approximately 0.8 gallons of fuel per hour, or 1,440 gallons per year. In addition, while in transit, the electric system eliminates any emissions that are present from the diesel refrigeration system.
