Mack Trucks Inc will once again sponsor the Share the Road highway safety outreach program in 2012, company officials announced. Kevin Flaherty, Mack senior vice-president–United States and Canada, made the announcement at the recent American Trucking Associations’ Management Conference & Exhibition.

Designed to enhance the safety of America’s roadways by teaching car drivers how to safely drive around large trucks, Share the Road uses professional truck drivers with exemplary safety records to deliver life-saving messages about potential blind spots, safe following distances, truck stopping distances, and other important topics. The drivers share this information with local media, students, community leaders, and highway users around the United States, using a Mack Pinnacle model highway tractor donated by the truck maker as part of its support of Share the Road.

Mack recently provided Share the Road with a brand new truck: a Mack Pinnacle Axle Back highway tractor.

The SmartWay-certified 70-inch high-rise sleeper is equipped with a mDRIVE automated manual transmission. The engine is a 13-liter, 505-hp Mack MP8, featuring ClearTech SCR technology and 1,760 ft-lb of torque. It also features the Mack Road Stability Advantage by Bendix with Adaptive Cruise Control, which helps avoid collisions by integrating throttle, engine brake, and foundation brakes into the cruise control function.

The new Pinnacle is the third truck Mack has provided to Share the Road since it became a founding sponsor in 2001.
