Bendix Spicer Foundation Brake LLC applauds the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) final rule requiring a 30% reduction in stopping distance for heavy trucks. The company’s line of Bendix brand foundation brakes meet this government mandate and offer application-specific systems for improved safety and reduced cost per mile.

In a position paper published in mid-2006 on the then-proposed stopping distance regulation, Bendix CVS and Bendix Spicer Foundation Brake had advocated a position that, for the sake of highway safety, a 30% reduction should be mandated to shorten the stopping distance for large truck tractors.

NHTSA’s ruling requires implementation on typical three-axle tractors to be completed by August 1, 2011. Tractors with two axles, as well as severe-service tractors, must implement the new mandate by Aug 1, 2013.

Since its inception in 2004, Bendix Spicer Foundation Brake has remained focused on its efforts to advance its braking technology. Bendix Spicer Foundation Brake currently offers all possible brake configurations to meet the new requirements, including all drum brakes, all disc brakes, or a combination of both.
