New England-based HP Hood recently selected 16 fuel-saving Precedent C-600 refrigeration units fitted with the energy-saving Smart Power Prep Package electric standby option from Thermo King.
Leaders at HP Hood, one of the largest branded dairy operators in the United States, wanted to improve fuel savings capabilities of its distribution fleet. They chose the Precedent trailer platform because of its overall performance and ability to achieve double-digit fuel savings.
“The Precedent C-600 meets our goals for fuel efficiency, reliability, and emissions compliance,” said Peter Smith, fleet operations manager at HP Hood. “We also like that the electric-standby feature on the trailers enables us to manage fuel consumption of our idling trucks and that the system allows us to continue to add electric standby to systems as needed over time.”
Electric standby offers a less expensive power option for a truck’s refrigeration system. HP Hood wants the ability to add electric standby both now and in the future, since some but not yet all of its warehouse facilities offer the equipment needed to take advantage of this option. The Precedent, with the Smart Power Prep Package installed, builds in the capability for adding electric standby in the future, as needed, without having to incur up-front costs.
The Precedent is a new trailer temperature control platform designed to be fully compliant with the new US Environmental Protection Agency Tier IV final regulations. The Precedent C-600 is a less-than-25-horsepower single-temperature unit with an allowed useful life in California of seven years.
Built from the ground up, the Precedent can deliver best-in-class performance and lower life cycle costs. These units provide sustainable solutions and a complete range of options.
