New trailers are coming off production now for XTRA Lease, a provider of semi-trailer rentals and leases that has ordered approximately 9,000 new trailers for 2015. The company is adding a mix of reefers, dry vans, liftgated vans, flatbeds, and chassis. New trailers will arrive at each of the company’s 53 rental locations throughout the year. As with recent XTRA Lease purchases, all 53-foot reefers and vans will receive fuel-saving aerodynamic side skirts, low-rolling-resistance tires, and trailer tracking units to help fleets attack utilization and costs. New dry vans will include galvanized rear door frames, rear bumpers, and landing gear bracing and wing plates. Some units also will receive galvanized landing gear legs. “While capacity remains tight, driven largely by today’s driver shortage, we’re continuing to invest in new trailers to provide fleets options for acquiring equipment,” said Bill Franz, XTRA Lease president and chief executive officer. “New equipment offers many advantages. Our specs include the latest technology to help save fuel, provide protection against costly damages, and prevent maintenance downtime.” XTRA
Lease has invested heavily in new trailer orders in recent years. Nearly half of its fleet is no more than five years old. The company has added more than 35,000 trailers equipped with aerodynamic side skirts and low-rolling-resistance tires since 2010, features that save fleets up to 6.5% in fuel savings, based on EPA estimates. Trailer telematics info helps fleets find unused rental trailers and return them sooner, and reduce the number of trailers needed, providing big savings in rental expenses each year. XTRA Lease’s 2015 purchase includes a mix of: •53-ft reefers •53-, 48-, and 57-ft dry vans •53-, 48-, and 28-ft liftgated vans •53-ft straight frame and single-drop flatbeds •48-ft tandem slider, spread-axle, expandable, and double-drop flatbeds •20/40-ft tridem chassis Based in St Louis MO and owned by Berkshire Hathaway, XTRA Lease is a provider of over-the-road trailers for rent or lease. With 53 locations, the company offers a fleet of about 80,000 trailers. Access www.xtra.com to learn more.
