THE COMMERCIAL Vehicles & Aftermarket business unit of Continental offers its VDO RoadLog Electronic Logging Device (ELD) as an easy and affordable solution to log book automation and compliance management. The product was rolled out at the 2015 Mid America Trucking Show March 26-28 in Louisville KY.

VDO RoadLog is a breakthrough in log automation and one of the first stand-alone ELDs available in North America, according to Continental. It features a built-in printer that can automatically print out the driver’s log at the push of a button.

The electronic driver log system offers a very practical plug-and-play solution for compliance reporting that’s both affordable and easy to use. It combines GPS data with input from the vehicle to create a digital log that the driver can either download or print out on the spot, as needed. Unlike many other systems, the VDO RoadLog ELD is available with no monthly fees or contracts.

VDO RoadLog’s software is designed to convert the driver’s log data into a complete, Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration-compliant operations record. The records are always accurate and up to date, eliminating any issues with log book entry errors and incomplete logs that can result in hefty fines. The system features a self-contained, built-in thermal printer that can produce a paper log, which looks just like a traditional logbook graph.

In addition to fast and easy recording and reporting for HOS, IFTA, IRP and DVIR, VDO RoadLog also provides multiple options for transferring and storing driver data as well as free on-going software upgrades to meet future regulatory requirements. VDO RoadLog is compatible with both modern CAN-bus vehicles and older vehicles with no data ports.

The VDO RoadLog suite of products now includes a wide range of software and hardware options for online and mobile connectivity that will not only improve operational efficiency for drivers and fleet managers, but also make the workload easier and less stressful. These options are available to meet the needs of both owner operator and fleet operations.

VDO RoadLog is backed by Continental, a global leader in regulatory compliance systems, with over six million Electronic Logging Devices installed worldwide.
