Celebrating 30 years of working together, Seattle University recently recognized Kenworth for its ongoing support of the Project Center in the university’s College of Science and Engineering during a special ceremony.

Over those 30 years, Kenworth has conducted 33 real-world engineering projects with Seattle University engineering students.

“Kenworth has been an invaluable partner with Seattle University since the beginning of the Project Center 30 years ago,” said Father Stephen Sundborg, Seattle University president. “The mentorships and collaborative projects the company has sponsored over the years have helped make the Project Center the true point of pride that it is for the university.”

“Support from the business and manufacturing world is vital to educational institutions,” said Dr Teodora Rutar Shuman, Seattle University associate professor and chair of the Mechanical Engineering Department. “Our projects with Kenworth give our students real-world engineering challenges. When solving those problems, the students know that they can make an impact.”

Students’ projects with Kenworth have included an electrified cooling fan; truck noise cancellation; torsion bar suspension enhancements; automatic turn signal cancellation device; dual-purpose aerodynamic panels; dynamic cab extender; and auxiliary heating, ventilation and air-conditioning.

“Kenworth has sponsored multiple projects that push a team to its limits, and we return annually because the students successfully rise to the challenge,” said Reid Nabarrete, Kenworth assistant chief engineer and Seattle University alumnus. “The Seattle University student teams always produce meaningful results, and several of their inventions have been submitted for patent protection.”
