Roadrunner Transportation Systems is investing in additional fleet assets to improve the driving experience and keep freight moving efficiently throughout its networks, the company said.

Roadrunner expects the new equipment to help increase safety, reduce breakdowns, improve fuel efficiency and provide a better driver experience. The upgraded fleet also is expected to help increase driver productivity and on-time delivery, while reducing maintenance costs.

Capital plans for 2019 include the acquisition of more than 500 sleeper and day-cab tractors, and the acquisition or refinancing of more than 2,100 dry and refrigerated trailers, Roadrunner said. The introduction of these assets will reduce overall tractor fleet age and add efficient capacity across all business segments.

“Investing in our fleet is one of the many ways we are focusing on putting our customers, company drivers and independent contractors first,” said Michael Gettle, president and COO of Roadrunner Transportation.

“We are extremely proud to introduce newer equipment to help us improve our fleet safety, reliability and efficiency.

“Since forming in 2017, our experienced and knowledgeable Enterprise Fleet Services team has added a tremendous amount of value to our organization and continues to help streamline our purchasing of equipment, fuel and maintenance. Over the last few years, this team has helped us leverage our collective purchasing power and partner with best-in-class equipment vendors.

“This team’s efforts have yielded extremely positive impacts on the quality of equipment, fuel and maintenance programs that we are able to offer drivers who choose to partner with Roadrunner.”
