Phillips enhances electric liftgate assemblies

The newly improved Weather-Tite M2, and new M2 Charge Kits, are designed to deliver corrosion prevention in an easy-to-install package.

Phillips Industries recently enhanced its corrosion-resistant Weather-Tite M2 liftgate electrical assemblies and introduced new M2 Charge Kits that combine the assemblies with easy-to-install cable support.

Corrosion is a top contributor to a failed liftgate, causing downtime and delayed deliveries, the company said. Most liftgate connections use zinc die-cast housings with unsealed open backs. Even with the best maintenance, metal corrodes over time, and any opening in an electrical system creates a pathway and the potential for corrosion.

Phillips’ Weather-Tite M2 features dual pole J3082 plugs that are “unbreakable, non-corrosive, and completely molded to the electrical cable,” Phillips said. The Weather-Tite seal at the front of the plug blocks moisture and contaminants from traveling past the connected union inside the socket, preventing corrosion from developing in the liftgate electrical system. The result is a durable solution that is “impervious” to water, contaminants, and corrosion. Enhancements to the Weather-Tite seal and added protection at the back of the plug provide further operational benefits. The previously blue Weather-Tite seal now is red to visibly identify liftgate battery charging applications. Additionally, assemblies now feature new cable guard sleeves to enhance strain relief protection at the back of the plugs for longer cable life.

The new M2 Charge Kit is a back-of-cab charging system that includes a newly enhanced 15-ft. coiled Weather-Tite M2 cable with a 48-in. lead and 25-in. Qwik-Change tracker spring kit with Qwik-Clamp for charging cables.

The Qwik-Clamp for charging cables comes pre-installed on the Weather-Tite M2 assembly to eliminate measuring or misplacement during installation, and setup takes less than two minutes, Phillips said. One part number provides access to a complete premium turnkey system that saves time, takes the guesswork out of installation, and provides the necessary defense against corrosion to keep liftgates cycling for on-time deliveries.
