Propane autogas box truck available from FCCC

INDIANAPOLIS. Freightliner Custom Chassis Corp. announced that its new propane autogas box truck model is now available for order.

The truck, which is a follow-up to the company’s successful propane autogas bobtail product, is based on the S2G chassis. Michael Stark, product manager-commercial chassis, said the chassis can take a box body from any manufacturer, but it can also receive flatbed bodies. The propane autogas S2G is now available in those three configurations as well as school bus and a soon-to-be-introduced shuttle bus configuration.

“Based on the customers we’ve seen from this show alone, our expectations [for the product] are high,” Stark said.

Stark said the model will typically receive about 6-7 mpg. with a payback on the system of between 1.5 and 2 years based on a typical upcharge of between $10,000 and $15,000.

The engine is an 8.0L propane autogas engine with a CleanFuel USA liquid propane system. FCCC factory installs the entire system. It produces 339 hp. at 4,100 rpm and 495 lbs.-ft. of torque at 3,100 rpm.

“In the performance curve itself, it is very reactive. You don’t have that performance lag,” Bryan Henke, manager of product marketing, told Fleet Owner.

The vehicle has a GVWR of up to 33,000 lbs. and includes a 3-yr./50,000-mi. warranty.

Henke said that customers looking to calculate their own ROI on the propane autogas system can visit and input their own numbers to calculate the likely return.

The company also had on display is CNG-powered walk-in van chassis. The chassis is powered by a dedicated 6.0L V8 engine producing 308 hp., 367 lbs.-ft. of torque, and offering a GVWR of up to 23,000 lbs. It is available on FCCC’s MT-45 and MT-55 chassis.

The fuel system includes carbon fiber cylinders with a driving range of more than 200 mi. The chassis includes a 3-yr./50,000-mi. warranty.

In addition, FCCC had a chassis with a Morgan Olson body. The unit features an FCCC MT-45 front-engine diesel chassis and a Morgan Olson aluminum body. It also features an extruded aluminum floor with 10-in. wheel boxes, interior-sliding cab doors and full roll-up door.

It is powered by a Cummins ISB diesel engine offering 200 hp. and 520 lbs.-ft. of torque, and with a wheelbase of up to 218 in. and GVWR of more than 19,000 lbs. Wheelbase options range from 138 in. to 218 in.
