The Nevada Highway Patrol is seeking the help of truckers who may have witnessed a rollover accident last Wednesday afternoon on Interstate 80 about 15 mi. west of Lovelock, NV, that killed a 66-year-old Sacramento woman.
Viktor Kovalev, 73, was driving east in a 2005 Honda Civic about 1:45 p.m. on April 25 when the car veered toward the center median, the NHP said in a Reno Gazette Journal report. Kovalev steered it back to the right, then it veered to the left one more time and hit a metal mile-marker post, the NHP said. He then over-corrected and sent the car into a clockwise skid and it went across both eastbound lanes and rolled after it went off the right side of the road.
Rita N. Kovalev, a passenger in the car, was killed in the crash. Kovalev was hospitalized in the Renown Regional Medical Center intensive care unit.
Several people reported seeing two large commercial vehicles — including a white doubles rig — in the area when the Honda rolled. The Highway Patrol wants to talk to the truckers and is asking trucking companies to review their log books to see if their drivers were in the area at the time of the crash.
Witnesses to the event are asked to call Trooper Kris Satterwhite at 775-689-4682 or email him at [email protected] about case NHP-120425527.
