The Truckload Carriers Association’s (TCA) safety & security division recently named Jerry Waddell, safety director for Cargo Transporters, Inc., as its “safety professional of the year” for 2012, receiving the group’s Clare C. Casey award.
TCA said this award recognizes a person whose actions and achievements have had a profound and positive benefit or contribution to better safety on our highways, with nominees committed to protecting lives and property in the motor transportation industry while serving their company, industry, and the motoring public.
Waddell, a 37 year industry veteran, began his trucking career as a driver in 1975 and joined Cargo Transporters as safety director in 1999.
Under Waddell’s leadership, Cargo Transporters has improved its year-over-year safety performance through implementation of improved safety and loss prevention techniques, creation of a training system that utilizes classroom, online, and simulator components, and the use extensive monthly safety analysis reports regarding DOT recordable accidents and CSA scores among other data.
“Throughout his long career, Jerry has always given freely of his time and talents, making a lot of friends along the way,” said Dennis Dellinger, president of Cargo Transporters. “His unwavering commitment to safety has shaped our company’s culture, and we are thankful and excited to have him representing us in the broader safety arena.”
