The North Carolina Dept. of Transportation will be closing roads northwest of Ellerbe, NC, to replace two bridges, according to press releases from the DOT.
NCDOT said it will temporarily close a section of Brown Road in Orange County beginning today to replace the bridge over the North Fork Little River. The closure will remain in effect through Wednesday, April 17.
Brown Road will be closed from Laws Store Road to Breeze Road. During the closure, drivers should use the signed detour from Brown Road to Laws Store Road to Walnut Grove Church Road to Breeze Road back to Brown Road, NCDOT said.
In addition, the Westbound lanes of Western Boulevard in Raleigh will be closed overnight next week while crews work on a project to tear down the bridge at Hillsborough Street and realign that intersection.
The closure will be in place between Powell and Hillsborough Streets from 9 p.m. until 6 a.m. each night through Friday morning Jan. 11. The closure is needed to allow the contractor to safely remove the bridge that carries Hillsborough Street over Western Boulevard as part of a $2.9 million project.
A signed detour will direct westbound drivers to turn right onto Powell Drive, go to Hillsborough Street, then turn left to get back to Western Boulevard.
There is already a detour in place for drivers going eastbound on Western Boulevard. Instead of using the bridge to access Hillsborough Street, they now stay on Western Boulevard, than turn left at Blue Ridge Road to get back to Hillsborough Street. That detour will remain in effect until the new intersection is complete next September.
