Tennessee Trooper injured in big rig hit-and-run

July 2, 2013

A Tennessee Highway Patrol trooper was seriously injured in a hit-and-run crash when a commercial truck driver struck his parked cruiser along Interstate 75 in Campbell County on Sunday morning, authorities said.

The truck driver, Stewart Snedeker, fled the scene of the accident, according to a report in The Knoxville News-Sentinel. He was arrested at a service station at exit 141 by Campbell County Sheriff’s Office deputies.

Snedeker is charged with driving under the influence of an intoxicant or drug, multiple counts of reckless endangerment, vehicular assault, failure to exercise due care, failure to move over for emergency vehicles, possession of drug paraphernalia, leaving the scene of a crash with injury and failure to report a crash.

Trooper Joe Lindsay was operating his warning lights on the shoulder of the roadway while a tow truck and crew remained on the scene of an earlier big-rig crash that occurred at mile marker 152, according to a news release from the Tennessee Department of Safety and Homeland Security.

A tractor-trailer struck Lindsay’s cruiser and the tow truck without stopping.

The trooper suffered a fractured vertebrae in his neck, a fractured rib and injuries to his arm, the release states.

Lindsay was treated and released from the University of Tennessee Medical Center.
