Dramatic video captures truck tragedy

Aug. 7, 2013

Dramatic video captured a runaway truck accident in Texas where a driver veered off I-30 and was killed, police have said.

Trucker James Long, 59, was driving a consignment of ceramic tiles when he lost control of the truck before crashing through highway barriers and landing on the freeway below where the rig burst into flames.

The video shows at least two motorists jumping from their vehicles and rushing toward the semi to try to rescue the driver who was killed in the crash. No one else was injured during the accident, which was caught on CCTV.

Police spokesman Detective Lyle Gensler told KLFM News: There are a lot of variables that could have mixed into this that could have made it more of a tragedy than it is. We’re very thankful that when the truck veered off of I-30 it didn’t hit any other cars ... So it is very unfortunate that the driver died at the scene, but it’s very fortunate that others lived through this horrific incident.”
