State highway officials are working with the managers of a Richmond, IN, truckstop to improve the safety on a stretch U.S. 35 by the Interstate 70 interchange near the truckstop's exit where two fatal accidents have occurred in the past two-and-a-half years.
The recent and second fatal accident at the location prompted a meeting last week between representatives from the Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT), Love's Travel Stops, local officials and two state lawmakers.
Wayne County Sheriff Jeff Cappa told the Palladium-Item that INDOT will be working with local police to collect more traffic data along a stretch of highway and will look into the possibility of adding better lane markings and signage at the intersection.
