Lytx adds asset tracking to its fleet management solutions

July 20, 2022
The new subscription service is designed for fleet managers to track powered equipment and get live data and real-time alerts. It can pair with the Lytx fleet management suite, which is also getting more maintenance enhancements later this year.

Video telematics provider Lytx launched an asset tracking service to go with its fleet management solutions suite. It is now available for customers in the U.S. and Canada. Fleet managers can use the service to streamline locating and managing their powered equipment, Lytx announced on July 20. The company also announced new maintenance enhancements for its fleet tracking service, slated for release later this year.

With nearly $1 billion in large machinery lost or stolen in the U.S. every year, Asset Tracking Service is designed for fleet managers seeking timely information about their powered equipment. The service consists of the Lytx Asset Tracker hardware and a monthly subscription per unit that grants customers access to the customizable software via a Lytx account.

Subscribing companies can quickly obtain data, such as the asset serial number, current estimated location, last connected time, and the last movement date, according to Lytx. In addition, customized real-time alerts provide additional visibility, including how long the equipment has been dormant, the current battery level, and when an asset enters or exits a defined area.

Paired with Lytx’s Fleet Tracking Service, asset tracking shows fleet managers where both their vehicles and essential powered equipment are at all times. This full-view visibility gives fleet managers and business owners the ability to track history and travel patterns to determine vehicle and equipment usage and whether they need to buy more equipment or offload some.

Enhanced by video, Lytx’s GPS fleet tracking software allows companies to manage and monitor their vehicles and assets in the field to respond faster, complete more jobs, decrease theft, and improve customer satisfaction. With an installed GPS-enabled device, fleet managers can gain visibility into arrival, idle, and departure times, leading to faster decision-making and reduced fuel costs.

Fleet Tracking Service is not required to purchase Asset Tracking Service, but Lytx notes that subscribers to both services would be able to see their vehicles and other equipment on one integrated map.

Lytx enhances maintenance support

New maintenance enhancements Lytx is developing and will be added to the Fleet Tracking Service later this year, the trucking technology company also announced on June 20. Those new capabilities include:

  • DTC (Diagnostic Trouble Codes) support for Heavy-Duty Vehicles: With current support for light-duty vehicles and upcoming support for heavy-duty vehicles, Lytx DTC Insights can identify potential vehicle malfunctions and help managers resolve problems before they become more dangerous or costly.
  • Preventative Maintenance by Calendar: Fleet managers can proactively configure and schedule vehicle service intervals with due dates set by calendar day. This can help perform time-based vehicle maintenance, resulting in fewer vehicle failures.
    • Preventative Maintenance by Engine Hours: Managers will also be able to track engine hours and have the option to schedule maintenance by engine hours, which can help measure the wear and tear on vehicles.
