J.J. Keller & Associates is offering a low-cost solution to make compliance with hours-of-service regulations easier for fleets.

The solution, E-Logs, cost just $6 per month per driver and require the one-time purchase of a $199 onboard recorder, Keller said. The E-Logs, powered by Keller’s Encompass, capture data which is then audited by Keller, which takes the information and provides online reporting and compliance information to the fleet.

“Since 1953, J. J. Keller has helped companies comply with the hours-of-service regulations by offering log books, training, auditing services, and more,” said James J. Keller, president & COO. “What was once a cost prohibitive solution for small- and mid-sized fleets is now a reality. As part of our commitment to the industry, J. J. Keller has developed a solution that is affordable for fleets of all sizes - allowing them to run legally and save lives.”

“Based on a cost-benefit analysis, the FMCSA estimates the safety benefits of EOBRs to be about $890 per year per power unit,” said Daren Hansen, transportation safety editor at J.J. Keller. “These safety benefits are based on preventing about half of the hours-of-service violations, so they think EOBRs will help prevent about 50% of the violations at these carriers, not all of them."

J. J. Keller will be hosting a webcast, “The New EOBR Rule and Effective Hours of Service Management,” on Tuesday, Oct. 12, 2010 at 1 p.m. Central time. The webcast will examine the impact of the EOBR rule, including information on who’s affected, when the rule takes effect, the incentives available for EOBR installation, how EOBRs will affect the auditing and enforcement process, the new list of 24 rules that can result in your company being forced to install EOBRs, and what you need to do to stay in compliance. A bill introduced in the Senate Wednesday would require the use of EOBRs if passed. Senators Mark Pryor (D- AR) and Lamar Alexander (R-TN) introduced the Commercial Driver Compliance Improvement Act (S. 3884). It has been referred to the Committee on Commerce, Science and Transportation for consideration.
