GPS Insight has announced it has sent out its one millionth GPS-based alert. Alerts notify fleet managers of a violation of driving policies, such as speeding, excessive idling, or long stops, on a company vehicle.

“GPS Insight alerts allow customers to define precise rules, and then be notified only when those rules are broken,” said Robert Donat, president. “We check every single minute of every day, for every alert. Only one in a thousand checks yields an actual alert message. Our alerts not only help correct problem driving behavior, but they also increase efficiency.

Alerts can be vehicle-specific, sent at certain times, on certain days, within certain landmark groups or in any combination. There are other reasons for alerts, including “notifying employees when vehicles approach a loading dock or hotel entrance so that they can be ready for them, or proactively notifying an appropriate person that a vehicle has been parked to long,” Donat said.
