NEW ORLEANS. A self-contained, battery-powered trailer tracking unit gives GE Veriwise a lower-cost option for fleets looking for simple location and geofencing functions.

Introduced at the American Trucking Assns. annual conference, the new GE Veriwise SAT-D300 features two solar panels and a new “dynamic charging” control for untethered battery recharging that does not require connecting the unit to the trailer power lines. The panel/battery combination should last the life of the trailer, according to Darryl Miller, COO of GE’s asset intelligence business.

The unit supplies duplex or two-way communications with the trailer over a satellite network. The dynamic charging feature manages power consumption based on available power and can be set to automatically “wake-up” as a trailer is moved.

The SAT-D300 does not offer cargo sensing, reefer control and other sensor-based features offered by GE Veriwise’s other trailer tracking systems.
