Satellite tracking system provider SkyBitz has gained approval to sell its patented global locating system (GLS) technology to logistics and transportation companies throughout Mexico.

As part of a joint venture with Grupo Pegaso, a privately-held company headquartered in Mexico City, the companies will launch SkyBitz de Mexico to support fleets based in the country, said SkyBitz CEO Rick Burtner. Grupo Pegaso will oversee sales and marketing efforts, while product development continues to be directed from SkyBitz's headquarters based in Sterling, VA.

Approval for SkyBitz to sell its system in Mexico follows the approval the company received in 2005 to sell in Canada, added Burtner, allowing SkyBitz to fully service all of North America. This venture also opens the door for further expansion throughout Latin America in the future, he added.

“Providing our service in Mexico is an important step in our strategic plan to dominate the asset tracking market in North America,” Burtner said. “Mexico is the third leg in our North American coverage, rounding out the U.S. and Canada.”
