LTL carrier A. Duie Pyle is switching over from Qualcomm's OnmiTRACS system to the new OmniVision mobile communication platform in order to boost freight visibility to its customer base, according to the company. The system will offer truck location and delivery stop; real-time shipment tracking; automatic e-mail notification of delivered shipments; and web-based point of delivery and estimated time of arrival user tracking options.

Christopher Hines, the current president & COO of Tripmaster Corp., has also taken on the role of CEO for the onboard computer company. Tripmaster chairman Richard Geib will turn over day-to-day operational duties to Hines, but remain as an active board member. Before joining Tripmaster, Hines served as president of GE Capital's TIP Div., and held senior posts with Terion and Pegasus Transtech.

Over 5,000 tractors in the U.S. Xpress fleet are being equipped with ALK Technologies' CoPilot Truck GPS navigation system. The system will provide drivers for the large truckload carrier spoken, truck-specific, turn-by-turn directions throughout the U.S. and Canada.

Rand McNally has released an API that allows carriers to integrate a variety of transportation management systems with the IntelliRoute Fuel, Lane Rates and Streets software modules for its IntelliRoute base mileage, routing and mapping software. All three modules can be updated on the Web. www.randmcnally.com
