Automated arrival and departure notices will be provided by a new driver productivity module for Qualcomm Inc.'s OmniTRACS and OmniExpress wireless communications and fleet management systems. Scheduled for release next month, the new module will fully integrate with dispatch systems from most transportation management software providers, according to the company.

Intended to help fleets optimize operations under the new Federal hours-of-service (HOS) regulations, the module will detect all planned and unplanned stops and departures without driver intervention. Alerts will be sent to dispatchers in real-time, providing fleets with proof of on-time delivery, measurement of detention times, auditing of driver HOS, and detection of stops at unsafe or unauthorized locations.

The module will initially be available for fleets using the QTRACS/400 fleet management software, followed by availability for the company's certified software provider platforms from Innovative Corp., Maddocks Systems, McLeod Software and others. Mobile hardware upgrades will not be necessary in most cases, according to Qualcomm.
